Through the Banksia
PRODUCT DETAILS
The ocean doesn't need a clear view to be felt. Shooting through the scrub, not past it, makes this scene feel like something you stumbled into, not something you went looking for.
Captured on 35mm film from a coastal headland, south-east Queensland.
Banksia flowers crowded the foreground, their dry seed cones framing a view they'd held long before anyone built on the headland behind them. Below, surfers sat in a clean turquoise lineup, a wave peeling through white towards the sand. Far off, the Gold Coast skyline barely registered through the haze — close enough to see, easy enough to forget.
This image remains unaltered from its original exposure. No colour correction, no cropping, no refinement. What existed in that moment is what remains here. Grain, imperfection, and all.
Part of the Still Archives collection - to hold on to real moments, and remind us to come back to them.
Print details
Giclée printed on museum-grade, acid-free 310gsm smooth cotton rag fine art paper.
